How I work

A simple process for getting a useful site live.

Most small projects do not need a complicated agency process. I start with the goal, keep the pages clear, build the useful parts first and check the details before launch.

Good for

  • First websites and portfolio pages
  • Small business websites and refreshes
  • Simple tools, calculators and quote forms
  • Domain, Cloudflare, email and hosting setup help

The usual steps.

The exact order can change depending on the job, but this is the basic way I like to keep projects moving.

1

Work out the goal

What does the page need to do: explain a service, get enquiries, show work, take bookings or help with a technical problem?

2

Plan the content

Pages, sections, wording, contact details and any photos or links are shaped into a clear structure.

3

Build the first version

I create the layout, styling and interactive parts, then check it on desktop and mobile.

4

Polish and launch

Final wording, spacing, links, forms, SEO basics, sitemap, domain, HTTPS and hosting checks are handled before it goes live.

What I try to avoid.

Good small sites do not need to be bloated, confusing or full of generic corporate wording.

Overdesigned pagesEffects should support the content, not get in the way.
Template samenessEach site should fit the business or person it is for.
Unclear contact routesVisitors should not have to hunt for the next step.
Unneeded featuresIf a feature is not useful yet, it can wait.
Ready to ask?

Send the rough idea.

You can message with unfinished notes. I can help work out whether it should be a starter website, a refresh, a simple tool, a portfolio page or tech support.
